The balanced gas turbine flowmeter is a high-precision flow measurement instrument widely used in industrial fields. It combines the classic mechanical measurement principle with modern intelligent electronic technology, playing a crucial role in industries such as natural gas and petrochemicals.

⚙️ Detection Principle

The working principle of the balanced gas turbine flowmeter is based on the conservation of momentum in fluid mechanics. The core process can be summarized as "flow velocity → rotational speed → electrical signal":

Rotating the impeller: When the measured gas flows along the axis of the pipeline through the flowmeter, the gas flow will impact the turbine (impeller) blades installed at the center of the pipeline, driving the turbine to rotate. Within a certain flow range, the rotational angular speed of the turbine is proportional to the gas flow velocity.

Signal Conversion: The turbine blades are usually made of magnetic conductive materials. When the blades rotate, they will periodically cut the magnetic flux lines of the external magnetic-electric induction coils on the shell, causing a change in the magnetic flux in the coil, thereby inducing an electrical pulse signal proportional to the rotational speed of the turbine.

Data Processing: The frequency (Hz) of the pulse signal is proportional to the instantaneous volumetric flow rate of the gas. This signal is transmitted to the intelligent flow accumulator, which is amplified, shaped, and counted, allowing the calculation of the instantaneous flow rate and cumulative total volume of the gas.

 Temperature and pressure compensation: The intelligent turbine flowmeter also integrates temperature and pressure sensors. The accumulator will automatically convert the volume flow rate under the actual working conditions into the volume flow rate under standard conditions (such as 20℃, 101.325kPa) based on the real-time measured temperature and pressure values, eliminating the impact of environmental changes on the measurement accuracy.

🌍 Application Scope

The balanced gas turbine flowmeter is mainly applicable to clean, dry, and non-corrosive gas media:

Urban gas: Trade settlement of urban gas pipelines, gate station metering, pressure regulating station monitoring

Petroleum and natural gas: Long-distance natural gas pipelines, refueling stations, oil and gas field gathering systems

Industrial production: Gas metering and process control in petrochemicals, steel metallurgy, boilers and kilns

Energy management: Energy efficiency management of compressed air systems, carbon emission monitoring and accounting

Important Note: This flowmeter is not suitable for gases containing a large amount of dust, liquid droplets, or with strong corrosiveness. If the gas contains impurities, a filter should typically be installed upstream of the flowmeter for pre-treatment to protect the turbine bearings.

Low pressure loss: Compared to differential pressure type flowmeters such as orifice plates, its internal flow channel design results in less pressure loss, which is conducive to energy conservation over the long term.

Limitations and Precautions:

High cleanliness requirements for the medium: Bearing wear and blade contamination are the main factors affecting its long-term stability, so the measured gas must be clean.

Mechanical wear exists: Due to the presence of high-speed rotating mechanical components, the bearings will wear out over time, requiring regular verification or calibration to maintain accuracy.

Installation Requirements: To ensure measurement accuracy, a certain length of straight pipe sections before and after the flowmeter are usually required to ensure stable gas flow.
